Below, is a Garden (G) scale intermodal container car. Two of these will be part of an attempt to set a new Guiness World Record for the longest model railroad train ever run. This event will occur during the Columbus Day weekend, October 9, 2008 through October 13, 2008 in Phoenix, AZ. Our two container cars will be part of 75+ other container cars. Go to this site: http://ricktherailroadguy.com/longestmodeltrain.html for more details.
Update 10-19-2008 From personal first hand knowledge, I can tell you that a lot of effort went into trying to make the attempt at a record run. We got close, but encountered a few unexpected obstacles. Check Rick's website for more details. Everyone is commited to making this record run a reality. Update3-11-2009 The final attempt to accomplish the 'World's Longest Model Train' will happen Saturday, 3-14-2009. There will be a feed for the event at: ricktherailroadguy.com if you want to see what is happening.
Update 3-17-2009 The record is still in the German's hands! Several attempts at the record were made, but the it eluded us again. We did set a record for the longest G (Garden) scale train ever run. We actually had 542 feet of train running at one time. That was 245 intermodal cars and engines. There may be another attempt in November.
(Although the picture looks blue, they are actually a lavender-pink color. Tried to make them as visible as possible!!!)
